Patch the lighting rig

Lighting elements — moving heads, PAR cans, LED bars, washes, strobes — carry a DMX footprint. Give each one a fixture, a mode and an address and the tool builds the patch list and a visual grid per universe, and tells you when two fixtures overlap.

Patch a fixture

1. Click a lighting element to open its Properties.
2. Pick the Fixture and its Mode (the mode sets the channel count).
3. Set the DMX address (1–512) and the Universe (default 1).
4. Optionally add channel names or Channel overrides (CSV), the beam angle, mounting, height from floor and power draw.

The element's canvas label now shows its footprint, and it appears in the DMX list.

The DMX list

Band → DMX List shows every patched fixture with its channel range, fixture and mode, universe, instance count and notes. Three buttons matter:

• Check Conflicts — scans every universe for overlapping ranges and reports No DMX conflicts found or names the clashes.
• Auto-Assign — lays every fixture out contiguously across universes. It asks first, because existing addresses are overwritten; fixtures that cannot fit are reported.
• Download patch sheet CSV / Copy as CSV — the patch as a file or on the clipboard, for the desk or the LD's email.

The DMX grid

From the DMX list, open the DMX Grid: all 512 channels of a universe as a 32 × 16 cell display. Patched cells are amber; conflicting cells flash red. Drag a fixture's block to a new address and the element's DMX address updates live. Tabs switch universes.

Fixtures the library does not have

The library is curated, not an exhaustive vendor database. From the DMX list, Edit Fixtures → + New fixture: enter brand, model, category, the default mode and its channel count, add more modes if needed, and save. Custom fixtures appear in the Fixture dropdown next to the built-ins. They are saved with the plot and covered by undo.

Rigging report

For plots with truss elements carrying motors and point loads, Band → Rigging report adds up what is hanging: motor loads with capacity, utilisation and a Safe / Caution / Overloaded status, point loads, load by department and truss self-weight. It exports as its own PDF. Hidden layers still count — the maths follows what is rigged, not what is drawn.
