The Ring-Out Simulator is the live-sound game. A stem plays through a 31-band graphic EQ. Each round, feedback builds on one random band. Your job is to find that band and pull its slider down before the ring reaches full howl. It is the drill you cannot do at a real soundcheck without a room full of people wincing.

Unlocking it

The simulator sits under Games on the dashboard and unlocks at 150 correct answers across the training modules. Until then its card shows how many you still need.

Playing a round

  1. Open Ring-Out Simulator from the dashboard.
  2. A round starts and the feedback begins to build. The ringing band glows red in the graphic EQ.
  3. Drag that band's slider to the bottom. When its net gain reaches zero or below, the feedback is killed and the round ends.
  4. You have 12 seconds per round. If the ring hits its ceiling or the clock runs out, the band "howls" and you score nothing for that round.
  5. There are 10 rounds, and the ring builds faster in each one.

Scoring per round is the time you had left when you killed it, times ten, with a minimum of 20 points for any kill. The summary shows how many of the ten feedbacks you killed, with Play Again and Back to Dashboard.

Tips

  • Listen for the pitch first, then look. The red glow confirms what your ear should already have told you; the point of the exercise is to get ahead of the glow.
  • The round only starts judging once the ring has actually begun, so you cannot pre-empt it by dragging sliders down before you hear anything.
  • If the tab is backgrounded mid-round the timer is clamped, so a stalled tab does not lose you the round instantly.

The simulator needs a wide screen for its 31 sliders. On a phone it shows a notice instead; open SoundSense on a desktop or tablet to play.
