Troubleshooting
Download refused, analyzer not detected, everything reads as occupied — and what to do.
| Symptom | Likely cause & fix |
|---|---|
| A Spektra license is required to download this | Your account holds no Spektra licence. Activate the Gumroad key on the Activate license page, then retry. Beta accounts are entitled without a key. |
| The Spektra download is not available yet | No installer is published for that platform right now. Write to support@squaresmile.de. |
| Opening Spektra on the platform sends me to an activation page | Same cause: the tool is paid and your account is not licensed yet. Paste the key from your Gumroad receipt. |
| The key is rejected on activation | Keys are verified against Gumroad. Check for typos and that it is the Spektra key, not one for another Squaresmile product. Activation also needs a verified email. |
| Analyzer not detected | Plug it straight into the computer — not a USB hub; the sample bandwidth needs a direct port. Check the device is one of the 8 supported families. |
| RTL-SDR Blog V4 does nothing | V4 support is experimental and behind an opt-in flag. Use a V3 if you can. |
| Everything reads as occupied (or everything as free) | The noise threshold is set wrong for this room. Use the suggest-threshold helper or drag the threshold to the actual noise floor. |
| No waterfall, only the history strip | The live waterfall needs an IQ-capable device. Other analyzers get the timestamped sweep-history strip. |
| The Advisor returns fewer channels than asked | There is not enough measured free spectrum for that count with the chosen profile and device families. Try the Robust / High-density profile, fewer channels, or a wider band. |
| A device shows registration required or forbidden | That is the regulatory overlay for the region you picked. Check the current national allocation — the overlay is guidance, not certification. |
| The demo shows channels I know are not in my venue | The browser demo and demo mode run on synthetic spectrum. Only the desktop app with an analyzer reads real RF. |
