SoundSense — the main screen

SoundSense is a set of training modules. A session is ten questions on one skill, played on real stems. You answer, see the correct answer with a short mentor note, and move on. Everything feeds a mastery bar per module and, over time, your rank.

Quick start

  1. Open SoundSense from the dashboard. Put on headphones.
  2. Under Training Modules, pick EQ. Leave the difficulty picker on Beginner.
  3. Press ▶ Play (or Space). The stem plays with a boost or cut applied. A/B: Processed / Dry compares it with the untreated signal.
  4. Tap the spectrum where you hear the boost and press Confirm guess. In multiple-choice modules, tap an answer or press its number key 19.
  5. Read the reveal: verdict, points, the correct answer and a mentor line. ♪ Hear correct plays the right answer. Press Next → or N.
  6. After ten questions the Session summary shows your grade, strongest and weakest calls, and a breakdown. Continue Training starts another session.

The dashboard

  • Engineer rank — your rank and what the next one needs.
  • Daily Shift — one eight-question shift per day. See Run a Daily Shift and climb the ranks.
  • Personal Bests and milestone badges.
  • Training Modules — three wings plus Games and Diagnostics, each card with its mastery bar.
  • Your weakest area — the module dragging your average down.
  • Top bar: 📈 Profile (EQ accuracy by band, flat/sharp tendency, per-module accuracy), 📖 Reference (a searchable glossary) and 🔊 Sound to mute interface sounds.

The 21 modules

Wing Modules
Mix Engineering EQ, Delay, Pan, Level, Mix Balance, Compression, Reverb, Distortion, Filter, Phase, Width
Musicianship Pitch, Tempo
Psychoacoustics Haas, Fletcher-Munson, Masking, Phantom, Binaural, Loudness, Precedence, Combination tones

Plus the Ring-Out Simulator (Games) and the Hearing Test (Diagnostics).

How scoring works

  • Tolerance scoring. A perfect answer is 100 points; one step off earns part of that. Only an exact answer counts as a correct answer for unlocks.
  • Mastery per module is the average of your last 20 answers there.
  • Difficulty. Intermediate unlocks at 50 correct answers, Advanced at 150. The dashboard picker sets it for every module.
  • Blind mode hides the visual hint and multiplies the score by 1.5. Available at Advanced difficulty.
  • Day streak advances on the first answer you record each day.

"I don't know"

Multiple-choice modules have an I don't know — show me & save for later button. It reveals the answer for zero points and bookmarks the concept. Next time you open that module, saved concepts are asked first; answering one correctly clears it.
