SoundSense
Ear training for engineers on real instrument stems — 21 modules, scored by how close you got, with mastery, daily shifts and seven ranks.
On this page
SoundSense trains the ear a mix actually needs. Every question plays a real recorded stem — drums, bass, guitar, keys, vocals or a complete multitrack song — and asks one precise thing: which band was boosted, which delay type is that, is this master louder. You answer, the tool scores you by how close you were, then shows the answer on an analyser so a miss becomes a lesson.
Who it is for
- Live-sound engineers who want to name the ringing frequency instead of sweeping for it at soundcheck.
- Mix and mastering engineers sharpening EQ, compression, reverb and width calls.
- Monitor engineers who want Ring-Out practice without a room full of people.
- Students and the self-taught who want a curriculum with a score.
What makes it different
- Real stems, not sine sweeps. The skill transfers to the console.
- Tolerance scoring. One step off earns partial credit. Binary right/wrong teaches guessing; proximity teaches hearing.
- A psychoacoustics wing. Haas, equal-loudness, masking, phantom centre, binaural beats, loudness, precedence and combination tones — as exercises.
- Live-sound modules. Phase, comb filtering, width and a Ring-Out Simulator on a 31-band graphic EQ.
- Progress you can see. Mastery per module, a daily shift, streaks, ten badges and seven ranks from Stage Hand to Legend.
