Troubleshooting
Taps not registering, an unsteady reading, a silent metronome, the tuner hearing nothing — and what to do.
| Symptom | Likely cause & fix |
|---|---|
| Space does not tap | A text field has focus, so Space types a space. Click somewhere neutral on the page and tap again. |
| Reading says Unsteady | Your taps are uneven — tap along for a few more bars, or set Tap smoothing to Average or Weighted in Settings. |
| BPM comes out double or half | Tap on the quarter note, not the subdivision; or use ½× / 2×. |
| One bad tap throws the reading out | Turn on BPM range lock in Settings and set a sensible Min and Max. |
| Metronome makes no sound | Phones need a tap to unlock audio — press ▶ Metronome again. Check the ringer / silent switch and the media volume. |
| Metronome stopped by itself | You switched to the Tuner tab; the metronome stops so its clicks do not reach the mic. Switch back and start it again. |
| 6/8 sounds like 6/4 | Check the bottom number of the time signature — /8 clicks twice as fast as /4. Older saved songs were migrated automatically. |
| Custom click will not load | The file must be decodable audio of at most 3 seconds. Trim it and upload again. |
| Song tap loads the tempo but nothing plays | Count-in is Off — pick 1, 2 or 4 bars to start the metronome from a song. |
| Cannot edit or add songs | The setlist is locked (🔒). Press it to unlock; you are asked to confirm. |
| Imported JSON lost some fields | Imports are validated — invalid tempos or fields are cleaned up. Check the file and export a fresh copy from the working list. |
| Tuner shows no signal | Allow the microphone (mic icon in the address bar), pick the right input, and play one clear note without chords or heavy distortion. |
| Tuner needle flickers | Set Release to Mid or Slow, and move the phone away from fans and air conditioning. |
| Tuner reads the wrong string | Pick the instrument preset so the string strip shows the target, or use Chromatic and read the note name. |
| Setlist missing on another device | Both devices must be signed in to the same account and online; sync is per account. See Account sync. |
| Controls cut off on a narrow phone | Rows wrap on small screens; if something still looks clipped, reload once — after an update the first visit can serve the old layout. |
