Working offline

Show Clock is an installable web app (PWA) with an offline cache. Once it has loaded, the operator side keeps working when the venue Wi-Fi drops, and the installed app starts without a network in under two seconds.

What works offline

• The clock keeps running. Next slot, running late, cues and blackout all work on your device. (Each device sets itself to the server's clock whenever it can reach the server.)
• Viewing and editing your timetables — everything is stored on the device.
• Importing and exporting files.

What pauses offline

• Sync to your other devices and to your viewers. Your changes are saved on the device and go up when the network is back. The top bar shows an Offline pill while you are offline.
• Live updates on share links. A share link needs the network to fetch news. A phone that has opened the live link once reopens it without signal and shows the last version it received, marked as such — it just does not update until the network is back.
• Weather needs the internet and goes quiet offline. Sunset keeps working: Show Clock works it out on the device from the location you set.

A venue with no signal at all

For crew who will never get a signal (a basement, a stage behind a lot of concrete), the Share sheet has a Link for no signal (snapshot). It carries the whole running order inside the link itself, so it opens without any network — but it never updates and it can't be stopped with Stop sharing. Send it only when the live link really cannot work. See Sharing.

Practical guidance for a real gig

• Operator device — load Show Clock once more on the day, with signal, before doors. After that it runs offline and syncs later.
• Crew phones — ask the crew to open the live link once while they have signal. From then on it opens offline with the last version.
• Editing on two devices offline — both keep their edits to different slots when they reconnect; two edits of the same thing are decided by last write wins.

Installing as an app

On phone or tablet, use Add to Home Screen to install Show Clock. It then opens fullscreen, respects the notch / safe areas, and starts offline. Full install instructions are on the install page.

Keeping the app up to date

The app caches its own files so it works offline. When a new version ships, the cache updates in the background and the new version comes in on the next reload.
