Getting started
Buy on Gumroad, install the VST3 or AU, insert it on the bus where the low end decides the mix, and set the crossover.

SubPress is sold and delivered through Gumroad. There is no platform download page and no key to activate on your Squaresmile account.
Quick start
- Buy SubPress on Gumroad (€19, one-time). Open it from the dashboard tile or the
/subpresspage — both point to the listing. - Download the installers from your Gumroad receipt or library. VST3 and AU are both included for macOS and Windows.
- Install, then rescan plugins in your DAW or live host so it appears.
- Insert SubPress on a kick bus, bass bus, drum bus or the full mix — anywhere the low end decides the mix.
- Set the crossover between 40 and 400 Hz to target the band you want to control: sub, kick, or the whole low end.
- Compress the low band with Threshold, Ratio, Attack and Release. Use the low band's Solo to hear only what you are compressing.
- Saturate the high band to bring presence back, and adjust Makeup. Solo the high band to check it.
- Toggle Bypass to compare.
The controls
| Section | Controls |
|---|---|
| Low band | Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Release, Mono Low, Solo |
| Crossover | 40–400 Hz |
| High band | Saturation, Makeup, Solo |
| Global | Bypass, output gain |
- Threshold / Ratio / Attack / Release act only below the crossover, so the kick and sub stop pumping the rest of the mix.
- Mono Low collapses everything below the crossover to mono, independent of the high band — a centred, club-ready bottom that translates on PA systems.
- Saturation drives harmonics into everything above the crossover so controlling the low end does not leave the top dull.
Using it live
SubPress adds no latency and is CPU-light, so it sits comfortably in Live Professor and similar hosts for front-of-house or monitor duty. There is no delay compensation to manage.
Formats and updates
VST3 and AU for macOS and Windows, both in the one licence. Updates are free for licence holders and come through Gumroad. No dongle, no iLok.
SubPress is not a full multiband compressor and does not try to be. It splits once, does two jobs, and recombines cleanly.
