RiggingSense
An interactive rigging-statics trainer — drag loads across trusses and bridle apexes, watch reactions and leg tensions solve step by step, and quiz yourself.

RiggingSense teaches the physics every stage rigger is expected to already know. Drag a load along a two-hoist truss and watch the reactions split — and go unstable when it passes the last point. Drag a bridle apex and watch leg tension climb as the legs flatten. Every result can show its full working, and a trainer scores your estimate before it shows the answer.
Who it is for
- Stagehands and apprentice riggers building intuition before the responsibility.
- Lighting and audio techs who hang things and want to understand what the rigger is telling them.
- Students, trainers and toolbox talks — a visual teaching aid with the maths shown.
What makes it different
- Drag it and see. Reactions, bending moment, bridle tensions — all update live as you move the load or the apex.
- Failure modes, named. Uplift when a load passes the last hoist, skew when one hoist takes far more than the other, each explained in plain words.
- Estimate first, then check. A trainer with levels, tightening tolerances, streaks and badges.
- A 20-term glossary linked inline throughout, also published at /riggingsense/glossary.
Pages in this guide
- Getting started — the sandbox in five minutes.
- Bridles — leg angles, tensions and the 30° rule.
- Training and safety factors — the quiz, safety factors and saving scenarios.
- FAQ and Troubleshooting.
RiggingSense is free with a Squaresmile account. It needs a tablet or a laptop.
RiggingSense is an educational tool. It is not a substitute for a certified rigger's or structural engineer's calculation, manufacturer load data or the applicable standards (DGUV V17/18, SQP2, DIN EN 17206). Real rigs are always verified by qualified professionals.
