Training and safety factors

Estimate first, then check — the adaptive quiz, the badges, the WLL explainer and how a scenario's worst hoist load is checked against a rating.

The fastest way to build rigging intuition is to guess the number before you compute it. The Training tab generates scenarios, scores your estimate and then shows the full working. The Safety factors tab explains the rating your answer has to fit inside.

Run the quiz

  1. Open Training and choose a topic: Everything mixed, Beams & trusses or Bridles.
  2. Press New question. You get either a numeric question (What load does Support B carry?, Each leg of a symmetric 45° bridle under 400 kg carries…?) or a judgement question with choices (skew, or stability when a load sits beyond a hoist).
  3. Type Your estimate in the current unit, or pick an answer, and press Check answer. A numeric answer counts as correct within a tolerance (correct within ±X %).
  4. Read the explanation — the lever rule, the centroid, superposition, self-weight, the bridle ladder, skew or stability — then Next question.
  5. Open in sandbox loads the question's exact setup into the Sandbox or Bridles tab so you can drag it and see. Refresh the basics takes you back to the concept cards.

Levels, streaks and badges

  • Nine levels. Level up and the questions get tougher and the tolerance tighter (Level up! Welcome to level n).
  • Badges at level 3 (Solid basics), 6 (Working pro) and 9 (Rigging brain).
  • Streak, Best and Accuracy are tracked, with badges for 5, 10 and 25 correct in a row.
  • Progress syncs with your account, so a streak survives a device switch.

Safety factors: WLL = MBS ÷ SF

The Safety factors tab shows the relationship every "5:1" conversation is really about:

  • Pick a Hardware preset — 1 t chain hoist (D8), 1 t chain hoist (D8+), steel wire rope sling, 3.25 t bow shackle, half-coupler truss clamp — and move the Safety factor slider. Breaking strength (MBS) and Working Load Limit update.
  • The hoist-classes card explains D8 (SF ~4, no loads over people without a secondary), D8+ (SF 10, static holding over people) and C1 per DGUV V17 (moving loads over people).
  • The dynamic-loading card explains why a snubbed stop or a bouncing lift is what part of the safety factor is for — not spare capacity to use up.

Coverage check

The line Does this WLL cover the sandbox's worst hoist load? reads the live worst reaction from your current sandbox scenario and answers Covered, Tight (≥ 80 % of WLL) or OVER the WLL. The sandbox shows the same result under its reactions, and a red support marks a hoist that cannot take the load. Change the hardware on the Safety factors tab and the sandbox updates.

Saved scenarios

The Saved tab lists every scenario you saved from the Sandbox or Bridles tab. Open loads it, Copy link shares it, Print prints it, Delete removes it. Scenarios sync with your account; a shared link contains the whole setup, so a colleague sees your exact rig even if they have to sign in first.

The hardware presets are illustrative and never real-rig values. Real safety factors are set by manufacturers, standards bodies and venue or insurance requirements. RiggingSense teaches the relationship; it does not certify a rig.
