Import a scan or connect an SDR

Bring the venue's real noise floor into the plan — supported file formats, the trace limit, and the live RF Explorer view over WebUSB.

  1. Import a scan file
  2. Connect a live SDR
  3. When a plan references a scan

A band plan tells you what is allocated. A scan tells you what is actually there tonight — the LED wall, the venue's own wireless, the walkie channel. FreqSense overlays a scan on the spectrum and subtracts anything above the noise threshold from the safe windows.

Import a scan file

  1. Press ↑ Import scan CSV (RF Explorer / WWB / generic) in the spectrum section, or drop the file onto the spectrum.
  2. The status reads Parsing scan… and then the trace appears in the Loaded scan traces list with its point count.
  3. Adjust Noise threshold — how many dB above the median a range has to rise before it counts as occupied. Flagged ranges appear as a badge on the windows panel (n ranges flagged from scan).
  4. Rename a trace, Hide or Show it, or remove it. Up to 3 traces can be loaded; a fourth asks whether to replace the oldest.

Supported formats

Format Notes
RF Explorer (.csv / .rfe) Units are detected from the magnitudes: MHz, kHz or Hz; positive amplitudes above 30 are read as dBµV.
Shure WWB6 / WWB7 Header-driven, with explicit unit suffixes; dBµV is converted to dBm.
Rohde & Schwarz FSH The Center / Level header vocabulary is recognised.
Generic two-column Frequency, Amplitude — use this when in doubt.

Comment lines starting with # or ; are skipped. Open Supported scan formats under the spectrum for example headers and a Load demo → file per format.

Connect a live SDR

The Live SDR panel streams sweeps from an RF Explorer straight into the spectrum as a live trace.

  1. Open the panel and press Connect SDR. The browser's USB device chooser opens; pick the RF Explorer.
  2. The status changes to connected and sweeps start arriving. Pause keeps the device connected but stops updates; Resume continues from the next sweep.
  3. Disconnect releases the device and removes the live trace.

Live SDR uses the WebUSB API, which only Chromium browsers support (Chrome, Edge, Opera). Safari and Firefox show a Why no SDR here? note instead. Use a data-capable USB cable — charge-only cables fail to connect.

When a plan references a scan

Saving a plan stores which scan it was built against, not the scan itself. Loading that plan later shows Plan references scan "…" — re-load it to restore noise-floor blocking. Import the same file again and the windows go back to what you saw.

For the real measured picture at the venue there is Spektra, the paid desktop scanner FreqSense hands over to — see /spektra.
