What is a click track?
A steady metronome pulse aligned to a piece of music. Musicians listen to it through in-ear monitors so the whole band stays locked to the same tempo, especially when playing along to backing tracks.
Do my audio files get uploaded to a server?
No. ClickSmith runs entirely in your browser using the Web Audio API. Your song is decoded, processed and rendered locally and never leaves your device; it is not stored between visits either.
Which audio formats are supported?
Import MP3, WAV, OGG and M4A files up to 200 MB. The export is a standard WAV.
How does the split L/R WAV export work?
ClickSmith writes the song to the left channel and the click — with cues and audio markers — to the right channel of a stereo WAV. Send the right side to the in-ears and the left to the PA. See Export the click track.
Can I get the song and the click as separate files?
Yes. Export stems (2× mono) gives you name_song.wav and name_click.wav.
How accurate is the automatic tempo detection?
It estimates the tempo from the waveform and shows a confidence reading. Refine it with tap tempo or one-BPM nudges, and shift the click offset in 1 ms steps so beat 1 sits exactly on the downbeat.
What if the song changes tempo?
Build a tempo map: place the cursor where the tempo changes and add a tempo change with the new BPM. See Handle a song that changes tempo.
Can I use my own click sound?
Yes. ↥ Own sample loads a file as the click, and you can still shape it with the synth controls. You can also give beat 1, beats 2–4 and the subdivision different sounds.
Can I put spoken cues in the click ear?
Yes. Audio markers attach a file at a point in the song and are mixed into the click channel. See Add cues, spoken markers and a rehearsal loop.
Do I need an account?
You use ClickSmith with a free Squaresmile account. The same login unlocks every other Squaresmile app, so you sign up once.
Does it work on a phone?
The tool fits a phone screen, but a laptop or tablet is more comfortable for placing the cursor and dragging loops.
Can it run my whole show?
No. ClickSmith builds the files, one song at a time. Play them on whatever rig you use.
