PowerSense

Turn a rig list into a phase plan — loads balanced across L1–L3, cable and voltage-drop checks, and a printout the venue electrician can act on.

PowerSense answers "will this fit on your power?" with numbers instead of a guess. Enter the gear in watts, VA or plated amps; it converts at mains voltage, applies your power factor and safety margin, balances everything across the three phases and tells you where each device landed. Then it checks the cable runs and prints the plan.

Who it is for

  • Touring and freelance techs advancing the power requirement before the truck rolls.
  • Lighting crews with dimmed conventionals, LED PSUs and motor controllers on 400 V.
  • Festival and outdoor crews on generators, where the 70 % rule is not optional.

What makes it different

  • A phase plan, not a total. Auto-balance places devices largest-first on the lightest phase and shows auto → L2 on the row. Pin the plan and it becomes the plug-in sheet.
  • Loads and cables in one tool. Every run is checked against a rating table and voltage drop (warn above 3 %, fail above 5 %).
  • One list per distro. FOH, stage left, lighting, catering — with a site overview that adds them up in W and kVA.
  • Honest guidance. The eight good-practice rules are built in and published at /powersense/good-practice.

PowerSense is free with a Squaresmile account and works on a phone.

PowerSense is a planning aid, not a certification. Its cable ratings are conservative guideline values for flexible rubber cable in free air. The final distro is designed, installed and signed off by a qualified electrician — always.
