LightSense is not built yet. The tool page shows a coming-soon notice and nothing else. Everything below describes the intended product, not a released one. A guide follows when there is something to guide.
Engineers train their ears; lighting designers learn only by doing shows. LightSense is planned as the equivalent of ear training for the eye: a browser training platform where you learn to read light, on the same engine and the same account as SoundSense.
Who it is intended for
- Lighting designers and operators sharpening colour and intensity judgement between shows.
- Lighting students who want structured, measurable practice.
- Theatre, concert and broadcast lighting people building a precise colour-temperature and hue vocabulary.
What it is intended to do
- Colour — hue. Name or match a colour within a tolerance.
- Colour — temperature. Estimate Kelvin; tungsten against LED against arc.
- Intensity. Estimate the percentage.
- Beam position — angle, focus point, coverage — and movement: pan, tilt, speed, direction.
- Scoring by proximity, not just right or wrong — the tolerance-based model SoundSense already uses — with per-module mastery, streaks, ranks and a reference library that explains what you missed.
Honest limits
Visual training depends on the display it runs on; colour accuracy varies widely between screens. How that is handled — calibration guidance, relative comparisons rather than absolute naming — is part of the design work still to do.
LightSense will be a paid tool, bought once on Gumroad, and is listed as coming soon with no price and no release date. Until it opens, SoundSense is the shipped version of the same idea for audio — see the platform overview.
