Audix

D2

Dynamic · Hypercardioid · 68–18,000 Hz · a rider regular

  • Audix fits the D2 with its VLM Type B capsule; the D4 uses the same 128 g, 100 mm aluminium body with a Type D capsule and a 40 Hz lower limit instead of 68 Hz.
  • Audix prints its off-axis rejection as more than 30 dB, against more than 20 dB for the D4.
  • Transformerless and passive: Audix states that phantom power left on the channel does not affect it.

Frequency response

No response curve yet.

MicSense only draws a curve redrawn from a graph the manufacturer publishes — it never estimates one from the microphone’s class. No published graph has been redrawn for the D2 yet, so the numbers are in the spec table below.

Polar pattern

Generated from the first-order directivity formula for hypercardioid. It illustrates the pattern type — it is not a measurement of this individual model.

Specifications: Audix datasheet · last checked 2 Oct 2026. These are the maker’s published figures for this model. A dash never means zero: “not published by the maker” means the maker’s documents give no figure; “not yet checked” means MicSense has not confirmed one yet. Spotted an error? Tell us.

What it gets used for

  • Toms
  • Guitar cab
  • Horn / brass

MicSense tags microphones by the job on a live stage, not by studio category — so you can filter for “kick in” or “monitor vocal” instead of working backwards from “large-diaphragm condenser”.

D2 alternatives: closest in published specs

Based on published specifications only — always listen at soundcheck. These are the microphones in the MicSense library whose datasheet figures sit closest to the Audix D2’s for the same live job, with the reasons. It says nothing about how they sound.

Not compared for the Audix D2: response curve not redrawn yet.

  1. Audix D4
    • Same job: toms, horn / brass
    • Same type: dynamic
    • Same hypercardioid pattern
    • Same form: end-address
    • About the same output — within the datasheets’ tolerance
    • Max SPL as high or higher (144 vs 144 dB SPL)
  2. Audio-Technica ATM650
    • Same job: toms, guitar cab
    • Same type: dynamic
    • Same hypercardioid pattern
    • Same form: end-address
    • About the same output — within the datasheets’ tolerance

Not comparable: max SPL not published by the maker

  3. Sennheiser MD 441-U
    • Same job: toms, guitar cab, horn / brass
    • Same type: dynamic
    • Same form: end-address
    • Supercardioid instead of hypercardioid — deepest rejection at ±126°, not ±110°: check where the wedge sits
    • ≈ 4 dB more output — about 4 dB less gain

Not comparable: max SPL not published by the maker
